Grant PUD

Customer-owned public utility in Grant County, Washington, generating over 2,100 MW of Columbia River hydroelectric power and delivering electricity and gigabit fiber internet.

Grant PUD (Grant County Public Utility District No. 2) is a customer-owned public power utility serving more than 40,000 customers throughout Grant County in central Washington state. Founded in 1938 by local residents seeking affordable county-wide electricity, the district is governed by a Board of Commissioners and operates under a mission focused on some of the most affordable electricity rates in the country.

The utility's generating base is the Priest Rapids Project, a hydroelectric development on the Columbia River comprising the Priest Rapids Dam and Wanapum Dam. Together the two dams produce more than 2,100 megawatts of hydroelectric power. Beyond generation and electric distribution, Grant PUD also operates a High Speed Network of fiber optic broadband, offering download speeds up to 1 gigabit per second across most of Grant County.

Technical work spans hydroelectric power generation, electric power distribution, fiber optic broadband telecommunications and renewable energy. The district has committed to the goals of Washington's Clean Energy Transformation Act, which require carbon to be removed from the energy supply by 2045, and it forms strategic partnerships to navigate evolving energy markets. Operations are anchored along the Columbia River corridor, including Electric City and Royal City, Washington.

Grant PUD frames its work around stewardship, conservation and sustainability in the care of its dams, crews and communities, alongside supporting the economic growth of Grant County through affordable, reliable service.
