Dairyland Power Cooperative

A generation and transmission cooperative supplying wholesale power and operating nearly 3,200 miles of transmission line for 24 cooperatives and 17 municipal utilities across the Upper Midwest.

Dairyland Power Cooperative is a generation and transmission (G&T) cooperative founded in December 1941 and headquartered in La Crosse, Wisconsin. It supplies wholesale electricity and related services to 24 electric distribution cooperatives and 17 municipal utilities across 62 counties in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois, reaching more than half a million people over a 44,500 square mile service area.

Technical work spans both sides of the business: generation and the high-voltage grid that delivers it. Dairyland operates six generating resource types - coal, solar, wind, natural gas, hydroelectric and biogas - giving engineers and operations staff exposure to a diversified portfolio rather than a single technology. Its transmission system comprises nearly 3,200 miles of line and 300 substations across the Upper Midwest. The organisation employs approximately 550 people.

As a Touchstone Energy Cooperative member operating under the seven cooperative principles, Dairyland is governed on a cooperative model oriented toward its member-consumers. Its stated core values are innovation, accountability, integrity and commitment to community, and its stated focus is safe, reliable, sustainable and affordable electricity, alongside a commitment to a cleaner energy future.
